War thunder guided bomb controls3/2/2024 The aircraft was taken out of testing and a few were deployed for combat field-testing during the First Chechen War in 1994, where they proved to be very successful in their dedicated tank hunting role. Finally, the engines were upgraded to account for the extra weight. The countermeasures were incorporated into the tail instead of standalone dispensers in the wing-roots, and a Infra-Red Countermeasures (IRCM) system was added to the tail to confuse heat-seeking missiles trying to attain a rear-aspect lock. The GSh-30-02 cannon was mounted on a special hydraulic hinge allowing it to depress up to 30 degrees downwards for ground strafing runs. The aircraft also received the Shkval and Prichal optical and laser targeting systems from the Ka-50 attack helicopter, in addition to the ability to use the Merkury and Khod external targeting pods and the Kopyo multimode radar pod. First off, the aircraft received a new fire control system and hardpoint management computer, allowing it to not only use new kinds of ordnance on its hardpoints, but also effectively manage them and even use multiple weapons on one hardpoint (primarily the APU-127-6 missile rack allowing it to use 8 Vikhr missiles on one hardpoint). Besides the notable "hump back" shape of the fuselage, the aircraft received a lot of major upgrades under the hood. Built on the basis of the Su-25UB twin-seat trainer airframe, the rear cockpit was replaced with a larger fuel tank and a lot of new electronics. Those are the steering vanes.During the late 80s and the early 90s, a dedicated Tankovy Shturmovaya (Tank Hunter/Attacker) variant of the Su-25 was ordered. Play close attention to the white lines that pop up in the tail. Here you can see 1940's German video of operation, where the above image came from. This is later model, with added features on "wing" tips. This is an EARLY engineering drawing, since it is labeled PC1400, as with the PC1400 bomb. It is a Guided Bomb with limited targeting radius. The FX1400 is NOT a missile, has no on-board propulsion. NOTE: that "rocket" in the tail is not a rocket! That is a FLARE so the bomb aimer can see it from 6000+++m away. It has only limited displacement, but with greater altitude, more displacement possible. The stubby wings and tail give it a small glide slope, actually similar to the "squirrel suits" used today by sky divers to "fly" over mountains. If you notice that it has only 320kg of amatol explosive, obviously that is due to the heavy steel bomb case needed to penetrate the armor. It is an ARMOR PIERCING guided bomb, which is not surprising as it was designed to penetrate ships armor. While not a unique idea, the German's where the first in fielding and using remote controlled weapons. None other than Nicola Tesla demonstrated the use of RC decades earlier as a way of controlling torpedoes! Radio Controlled vehicles (not a drone, no self control) was one of the first applications of the new technology of Radio. Simply put, the FX1400 "Fritz-X" was the world first guided air-dropped munition.Įxperience from the Spanish Civil War, where the major power all participated in, taught the Germans limitation in bombing moving targets, mainly ships.ĭevelopment was started before WW2 and progressed until a reliable weapon was fielded.
